NEW SUITS: Q&A

Q: What is the other light brown suit for?

A: It is called an undersuit that you wear under your white suit so that undergarments don't show through. You would be well advised to wear it.

Q: My shorts are too big? What do I do?

A: Please speak with Tracy Liantzakis, Sofia's mom. She will be handling all suit problems as our liaison with the Saucy's World manufacturers. You may leave messages for her in the office.

Q: Why white?

A: We wanted something classic and clean. We think the white will look really sharp on the floor and when the athletes are all together.

SCHEDULE AGAIN

The last Sunday wouldn't pop up big when I clicked on it so I thought I would try posting it again.

Here ya go.

1st Cup SCHEDULE

Here you go guys. I know we have all been waiting for it and the final result is not too bad. I was worried about a Friday night competition. Didn't happen. Thank goodness.
Look closely for your time of
registration and BE EARLY! (at least 15 minutes!)

Food & Drink

One more thing for the Mock Meet.
If everyone could bring a snack food item or a drink of some kind that would really help.

Food suggestions: granola bars, veggies, fruit, simple snacky food items that are healthy.

Drink suggestions: drinking boxes, little bottles of juice, cans of juice or Powerade, healthy drinks.

When you arrive you may take your food or drink items downstairs to the refreshments table. Thanks so much for helping out. We appreciate everyone's contribution and cooperation.

PICK UP YOUR SUITS

The competitive tumbling suits are in and ready for pick up in the office.

Please wear your new suits this weekend for the Mock Meet so that if there are any problems with them that we can maybe get them taken care of before the 1st Ontario Cup.

Everyone will look so classy in white.

VOLUNTEER PLEASE

Hi,

Here are the volunteer posts available for this weekend. They are simple and easy, well maybe scoring is harder but you will have lots of help and no one will yell at you.

Marshaling

Results posting, running, distributing

Reception

Videotaping

Photographing

Awards and goodie-bags

Certificates creation and Distribution

Gym Tidy-ing

Managing the Video in the Lobby (real simple)

Judges/Coaches room, hospitality

Please send Don an e-mail with what you are able/available to help with.

You are welcome to just sign up for the day that you child competes. As well all positions can see the competition so you will not be stuck at a door outside or in an office where you cannot see the action.

It will be fun and relaxed. All volunteers are asked to wear black to make you look formal ... but... relaxed.

Please make all of our guests feel welcome!

Good luck to all competitors and nervous mom's!

Perfect Form

Uh, ya. Not exactly what we are looking for ... but getting there guys!

Err ... nice!

Provincial Training Camp @ OGC

We held our own little training camp for the Provincial Level tumblers as we were unable to invite everyone to the Gymnastics Ontario Provincial Training camp in December. We just have too many bodies.

We invited a couple other clubs to train with us. Simcoe Gliders and Barrie Kempettes participated.

The training camp was simple but lots of fun.

On Day 1 we invited Kostia Zahkarenko from Zacada Circus School to teach Sport Acrobatics to the kids. Kostia is the owner of the Zacada Cirsucs School in Stoney Creek. Prior to opening his circus school Kostia was a 10 year vetran of Cirque Du Soleil's, Quidam show. Before touring with Cirque, Kostia was a World Championship Silver Medalist in Sport Acrobatics with his team from the Ukraine.

On Day 2 we invited Kelly Manjak the Head Coach of the Women's Artistic Gymnastics Program at the OGC to show us some specialized tumbling conditioning. Kelly is the previous Olympic coach for Canada and coached Kyle Shewfelt's to a GOLD medal on floor EX at the Athens Olympics. Kelly brought some of his girls to demonstrate.

Everyone learned lots and worked hard.

From the photos I think we still need some work on form.

Thank you to Jackie and Niki for supplying snacks.

Next year's training camp will be even bigger and better.

JANUARY SCHEDULE

Here is the January schedule for everyone. I have posted on on the tumbling bulletin board at the gym and I have provided you with a paper copy.

Please Note the Mock Meet and the 1st Ontario Cup are coming up this month.

Good luck to all the tumblers who are competing or performing!

Doors will be closed

Hey Everyone,

Please note that the doors to the facility will be closed as the office is not open past 5:00pm this week. Athletes who are coming in for training (as training is still going on) will be let in via the front sliding doors and ushered out at the end of class. Please make sure your athlete knows this and if they need to be picked up early please let you child know.

Happy Training.

Starting Sunday, January 6th schedules will return to normal.

Thanks for your cooperation.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope that everyone had a great holiday.
I am eager to get the athletes back into the gym for some serious training as we only have a few short weeks until the 1st Ontario Cup in Oshawa. Here are the updates for this weeks schedule. I will post a new January schedule on the blog this week.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2nd
NATIONAL 3:30-5:30pm with Don. Provincial level tumblers who train with the National group are to come during the Provincial time today and tomorrow for the training camp. So Cory, VaNessah, Olivia, Nikki, Michael, and Marle please come for 5:30 to 8:30pm.
PROVINCIAL 5:30-8:30pm Training Camp. We have some guests coming from other gyms and we have a special guest coach coming from the Stoney Creek Zacada Circus school. Please bring $3.00 to cover the cost of the guest coach.
PARENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED to be the hall monitor during the 5:30 to 8:30pm time slot. The office will be closed so the viewing area is usually closed. If we can have someone to simply monitor the door and upstairs then parents can sit and watch. Please let me know if you are available to help out via e-mail or leave me a voice message at the gym. Thanks in advance.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 3rd
NATIONAL 3:30-5:30pm with Don and Niki. Again Provincial tumblers should train 5:30 to 8:30pm.
PROVINCIAL 5:30-8:30pm Training Camp. We again have some guests coming from other gyms and we have a different guest coach. The guest coach is a previous Olympic Level Diving Coach from Kahzakstan. She presently runs her own diving program in Etobicoke and was one of my competitive diving coaches. She will be instructing the group on flexibility and conditioning. Again $3.00 should be brought to cover the cost of the guest coach.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 4th
NATIONAL 3:30-5:30pm with Don and Niki.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 6th
Back to regular schedule.
